Into the Woods is an amazingly successful adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway musical, but it’s a song that was never in the original show that fans of the movie may wind up missing most. Before production on the Rob Marshall-directed film began, Sondheim wrote a new song, “She’ll Be Back,” for Meryl Streep’s Witch character. It’s part of a larger change to the overall plot of the show, which you might have heard a thing or two about from outraged Into the Woods fans. The song didn’t make it into the final film, but will be featured on the eventual DVD, and hopefully alongside the instant classic autograph Streep received from Sondheim on the sheet music.
