Preserving the legacy of Merce Cunningham

Dance, by its very nature, is the most ephemeral of all arts. How can it be saved for the enlightenment or pleasure of future generations of both dancers and audiences? In dance, there is no official text, either in written or visual format. Notes are inconclusive, films are subjective, dancers' memories are fallible. Put them all together, however, and the best of the past may have a chance for survival.
