Charles Isherwood makes his Tony Award choices. For the Should Have Been Nominated category, the Times’s critics were allowed to expand the potential nominees to Off Broadway productions, which are ineligible for the Tonys. But they didn’t consider “Hamilton,” which is moving to Broadway.

Should win: “An American in Paris”

Should have been nominated: “The Last Ship”

 

BEST PLAY

Will win: ”The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time” by Simon Stephens

Should win: “Disgraced” by Ayad Akhtar

Should have been nominated: “Small Mouth Sounds” by Bess Wohl

 

BEST MUSICAL REVIVAL

Will win: “The King and I”

Should win: “The King and I”

Should have been nominated: “Side Show”

 

BEST PLAY REVIVAL

Will win: “Skylight”

Should win: “Skylight”

Should have been nominated: “The Heidi Chronicles”
