Per Oscarsson, an icon of the Swedish stage and cinema known for his big-screen portrayal of nervous eccentrics, was confirmed dead Wednesday in connection to an earlier house-fire.

With the help of dental records, a forensic examiner identified the remains of the two people found at Oscarsson’s residence in Skara, a city in southwestern Sweden, as being “Oscarsson and his wife Kia Östling,” said police spokesperson Ulf Edberg.
