LONDON ASSURANCE: NATIONAL THEATRE, LONDON
THE Irish dramatist Dion Boucicault was the theatrical toast of London on March 4, 1841, with this rip-roaring comedy.
He was only 21 but London Assurance immediately established him as the wittiest playwright of the age. Today he is regarded as the natural link between Sheridan and Wilde.
