Keira Knightley, Jude Law and Mark Rylance in the running for 2009 Oliviers

Keira Knightley, James Earl Jones, Jude Law, Samuel West and Mark Rylance are among the names vying for the 2009 Laurence Olivier Awards, it has been announced today.

Among venues, London’s Royal Court Theatre is leading the way, picking up 15 nominations for four different productions – Jerusalem, Enron, The Priory and Cock.

In a particularly strong year for plays, both the Donmar Warehouse and National Theatre also fared well with ten and nine nominations respectively. According to awards organisers, such was the strength of the drama categories, that the Best Actor, Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Revival categories were all extended to six nominations, from the regular five.
