ATC invites 34 playwrights to help celebrate its anniversary
ATC artistic director PJ Paparelli says the goal was to compile a diverse group of local and national voices and styles. Since a lot of the project would examine the national psyche of a given year, Paparelli was looking for writers with strong social and political voices.
He started locally and then broadened the search nationally.
"Actually, I didn't think a lot of people outside of Chicago would be interested," Paparelli said. "We just got flooded with writers who wanted to be involved. It was really a surprise."
